Role: Ashford Place De-Caf (Dementia Café) Coordinator
Hours: Part-time (7 hours a week of which 3 are on Tuesdays i.e. 1.30 - 4.30pm )
Salary: £5K Per annum + Pension contribution incl.
Based at: Ashford Place
Annual Leave: 28 days a year pro-rata + public holidays

The Ashford Place De-caf is a support service for people living with dementia and their carers and families. It caters for people who are able to travel to and from the de-café independently which includes use of transport such as Brent Community Transport and/or with the support of a carer accompanying them. It also caters for people living with dementia who are able to engage in activities and support. The De-caf is unable to offer personal care, behaviour management, support with eating/drinking.
We are looking for someone to successfully develop and manage our De-caf meaning you will be responsible for the running of the de-café session on Tuesdays as well as providing basic case work support to clients.
The ideal candidate will have experience of supporting those with Dementia and their carers and be able to design, lead and facilitate groups. Good organisational skills along with a team approach (of volunteers) are essential. The ability to supervise and support volunteers is essential in line with the Ashford Place’s policy and procedures. You will also provide information and support for people with dementia and their carers while they are attending the café.
An enhanced DBS disclosure will be required.

Key tasks include
To provide support, information and guidance to people with dementia and their carers helping to maintain their independence, improving their sense of well-being, and putting them in more control of their lives.
To design and deliver a full programme of social and learning activities at each de-caf session.
To manage referrals, assisting clients in assessing their information and support needs.
When appropriate, to signpost clients to a choice of suitable other sources of help.
To responsibly signpost clients and carers to other services.
To maintain accurate, up to date client support plans and client contact records using our Salesforce database.
Skills and experience
- Good organising and time management skills
Good communication skills
An understanding of dementia
An understanding of the needs of people with dementia and their carers
Experience of working with statutory and voluntary agencies
Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Health & Safety and the Mental Capacity Act
Experience of record keeping and report writing
An understanding of the need for client confidentiality
Personal attributes / qualities
- Able to assess and evaluate client need
- Able to represent the needs of the organisation and clients externally
