This week has shown us again how difficult and terrifying it can be for residents to complete applications for welfare support. Most of us who have seen a typical benefits application form or an online application for e.g. a blue badge initially feel a sense of dread simply because of a lack of confidence or indeed ability to complete these. And of course this means that for some people they give up and don’t benefit! James came in for a formal appointment today to ask for help with his forms. I don’t think he has stopped praising our advisor for her help. He feels so much better, relieved and happy with himself knowing that his forms have been completed correctly and efficiently and actually feels a bit more positive about doing them himself in future. Just because we have these benefits doesn’t necessarily mean all of us can confidently apply for them.
