Bus drivers on the move with dementia

Many people living with dementia are not comfortable engaging with the wider community as they fear they will be misunderstood or worse, verbally abused because they may have forgotten where they were planning to go,  mislaid their bus pass or just looking confused. This week bus drivers from Metroline garages in Edgeware and Cricklewood took part in a dementia awareness event delivered by ourselves on behalf of our partners Kilburn Primary Care Kilburn and CAD-Brent .

Bus drivers talked about the need to recognise the symptoms of dementia as they wanted to ensure a quality service for all their customers. Many of the drivers had stories of meeting customers who exhibited the signs and symptoms of dementia and wanted to know more about the condition and how best to respond. Back in 2017 the Mayor of London outlined his committment to making London, including the transport network, dementia friendly and went on to say that e must make sure our services help people with the condition so they can lead full and active lives for as long as they can. We are pleased to be supporting the Mayor’s plans.
