I am being affected by the benefit cap

The benefit cap is a cap on the total amount of benefit that most people of working age can claim. If you have received a letter saying you are being affected by the benefit cap and are confused what this means or worried about the consequences please come to one of our advice clinics or contact one of our advisers.

The cap is £296.35 a week for a single person inside London

£442.31 a week if you are in a couple or family inside London

You're not affected by the cap if you or your partner work and either of the below apply:

You or your partner are able to claim working tax credit

You or your partner get Universal Credit and your income is more that £430 a month after tax and NI contributions
