All smiles at Ashford Place Dementia Café!

10.08.2022

Smiling and happy thoughts were the order of the day at Ashford Place Dementia Café last Tuesday afternoon when Ronald and Emily from arts4dementia led a poetry workshop with café members. Titled the ‘Box of Smiles’ everyone present was encouraged by Ronald to share their thoughts on what made them smile. There was much laughter and lively discussion as ideas were shared and then recorded by Emily for a group poem which included the lines –

Following the group activity, members were encouraged to write their own poems using their 5 senses to describe what made them smile and many volunteered to read their poem to the group. Both Ronald and Emily were very impressed by the response and enthusiasm of everyone present for the workshop and promised to return to share more smile activities with the group in the future.

Danny Maher CEO of Ashford Place expressed his gratitude to Arts4Dementia and to Emily and Ronald for delivering such an inspiring afternoon of poetry, laughter and happiness.

An anthology of the poems written by Tuesday’s Dementia Café members will be available to read at AP Dementia Café, which meets every Tuesday from 2 to 4pm.

Ashford Place Dementia café  will be closed for 2 weeks – Tuesday August 23rd and Tuesday August 30th.

The afternoon DeCafé will meet again on Tuesday September 6th at 2pm.
