Ashford Place proudly launched Aunties in England - an evocative oral history project

20.06.2025

This week at the Irish Embassy, Atlantic Fellows, in partnership with Ashford Place proudly launched Aunties in England - an evocative oral history project.

As a local charity we are committed to amplifying underrepresented voices and were delighted to work with Atlantic Fellows in curating meaningful, intergenerational storytelling and indeed recruiting the ‘Aunties’ who you can now hear on the Atlantic Fellows Podcast. Aunties in England captures the lived experiences of Irish women who emigrated to London between the 1960s and 1990s, exploring their reasons for leaving, their adaptation to life in England, and their evolving sense of identity. Through a rich series of oral history interviews, the project sheds light on the challenges these women faced - from discrimination to cultural adjustment—while celebrating their resilience, faith, and lasting contributions to both British and Irish communities.
