Last week, Ashford Place were delighted to welcome the Green Doctors back for an information session about their free support on energy for vulnerable residents. We are passionate about helping our clients to stay as well as they can and become financially resilient. One way of doing this is our invitation last week to the Green Doctors to visit us and speak with our clients regarding the latter’s’ concerns and listen to some solutions. They are a team of expert energy advisers who arrange a phone consultation or home visit with residents to help with their energy use. This free service helps residents save money, reduce the mental stress of bills and keep homes warm and dry.
A cold, damp home isn’t just uncomfortable. It exacerbates health conditions like asthma and other respiratory illnesses and increases the risk of heart disease and cardiac events. It can also worsen musculoskeletal conditions like arthritis and trigger depression and anxiety.
Elderly people and those with pre-existing illness are among groups who face the highest risk of ill health when living in cold or damp homes.
Although it can be tempting to push concerns about draughty windows and confusing energy bills aside when summer is around the corner, now is the perfect time to make sure your home is warm, health is protected and bills are manageable for next winter.
What to expect during the consultation:
- Personalised advice and help understanding energy bills.
- Energy saving tips and free energy-saving items such as draft proofing strips and LED bulbs.
- Information about smart meters
- Support access grants and schemes.
If eligible, you could also receive:
- Supporting with accessing the Water Discounts, Priority Services Register and Warm Homes Discount.
- Support with applications for energy or water debt relief.
- Refer residents to other services for additional support if needed.

Ashford Place staff are planning a series of this kind of information event over the next twelve months to ensure we can reach as many of our vulnerable clients as possible.
