Bakers dozen – baking for good mental health

13.07.2022

Our weekly Baking Club has been running very successfully since restarting post – Covid in September 2021. Every Wednesday a group of up to 13 enthusiastic bakers meet to try out recipes and experiment with different ingredients and flavours. Healthy options such as Porridge bread, wholemeal scones and banana bread were baked with Blueberry muffins, lime and coconut cupcakes and mince-pie cupcakes proving very popular. Bakers also learned how to make Gingerbread, Victoria sponges, chocolate chip cookies and cinnamon rolls.

Not only do you learn to bake but bakers get to take their cakes and biscuits home.  Whilst in the oven there is time for a chat over a cup of tea and to complete some puzzles.

It is lovely to see friendships being forged and our clients helping each other to live happy and independent lives whilst knowing that they can access support here at Ashford Place for any issues that might arise in their lives that cause worry and distress.

We welcome donations of flour, baking soda, caster sugar etc. and also mixing bowls and wooden spoons!

While the Baking Club will take a break for the month of August, it will resume on Wednesday September 7th at 2pm. Anyone wishing to join should add their names to the waiting list. Contact [email protected]
