We continue to work hard on our Befriending project in Ashford Place, ensuring the older members of our community are not experiencing isolation and loneliness daily. Some clients find themselves alone by becoming unwell and not being physically able to travel out of their house as they might have done regularly. Others who just feel the weight of their age upon them can slow them down and this can affect them physically and mentally over time. If they have nobody to guide them and encourage them to keep going out as much as they can, they can find their physical health and mental wellbeing decline.
Because of this, we are on the phone with our clients regularly and they look forward to our calls as for some it is one of the only calls they will get on a given day. Our calls keep them connected with the world outside and lets them know they have someone who cares and they can talk to.
Many clients have family who have moved on or far away which leaves some without any family support and relying on services such as Ashford Place Befriending Team offer.
As the weather is getting better, we are always delighted to see a lot of our regular clients come to see us and take part in the activities we provide.
It is important to us not to lose focus on our older clients who are unable to take part in our one to one services or come to see us for activities which is where a good befriending relationship comes into it’s own.
