Behind the Scenes at the Royal Albert Hall

22.10.2026

Yesterday, ten members of the Ashford Place community enjoyed a fascinating behind-the-scenes tour of the Royal Albert Hall. Our group brought together people of different ages and experiences, including carers, and people living with memory challenges.

We were treated to a glimpse of some truly special spaces, including the magnificent King’s Box and the private room where the King can relax and enjoy refreshments. We also heard that Prince William had dined there the previous week - a detail that made the visit feel all the more special.

One of the most intriguing discoveries was learning about the large, saucer-shaped acoustic reflectors suspended high above the auditorium. These remarkable features help carry sound around the Hall, supporting the wonderful acoustics that make performances here so special. And as for the other secrets we uncovered? Well, some things are best kept between the tour group and the Hall!

The group thoroughly enjoyed the experience. There was plenty to marvel at, learn about and talk over — and the warm welcome continued with fresh coffee and tea, alongside delicious warm pastries. It was a lovely opportunity to pause, chat and enjoy each other’s company in such an iconic setting.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Royal Albert Hall for its ongoing friendship with Ashford Place, including the outreach and opportunities such as this tour. These experiences open doors to culture and learning, bring people together across generations and circumstances, and help reduce social isolation by creating shared memories and connections.

It was a special day of discovery, conversation and hospitality — and one that our group will remember with great pleasure.

A little history, a few secrets, wonderful company — and pastries to finish!
