We held our Black History Month Celebration Day on 12th October which, we are delighted to say, was very well attended and enjoyed by all. There was a great turnout and everyone who came along enjoyed a live performance by our guest steel band who played all the favourites to a very high standard! It was great to see so many new faces come through the door and old faces we have not seen for some time. Everyone joined together and danced and sang the day away. For some it was a great opportunity to reconnect with their homeland where they have not have been to for many, many years. It is important for everyone to feel a sense of belonging and connectivity with their heritage so to this end our Black History Day was a great success. Many people can feel very isolated not only by being alone in their homes here in London, but also they can feel a great sense of loneliness and longing for their own culture so it is a pleasure to bring a taste of these cultures to Ashford Place.
Our chef cooked some wonderfully delicious fresh meals to compliment the theme of the day.
After lunch, our guests were entertained by a very talented storyteller who came in to tell African stories to our guests. Storytelling is a wonderful skill and when done right, as it was done the day, it is very enjoyable. Our guests were certainly well entertained by the stories and went away feeling uplifted. There was a great sense of belonging and appreciation for our Black History at the event and we look forward to holding again next year.
It was a great opportunity for us to showcase our client’s works of art that have been created in art groups over the last few months. Our art classes and groups are an opportunity for our clients to enjoy creating art through various mediums but also it is therapeutic for them and a positive way to express themselves and a great way to make new friends.
