Celebrating Love and Wellbeing at Ashford Place: Our Valentine's Day Celebration

17.02.2025

This Valentine's Day, Ashford Place was filled with warmth, laughter, and community spirit as we took the opportunity to celebrate the people who make our centre so special. The sun shone brightly, and our service users turned out in full force to enjoy a fun-filled day of activities designed to uplift and inspire.

Our Wellbeing Director, Renee, hosted a cozy Poetry Corner, where guests could sit back, relax, and engage in heartfelt one to one conversation. Guests shared their personal journeys—why they started attending Ashford Place, how they were feeling, and what benefits they’ve experienced from engaging with our services. In addition, guests enjoyed a selection of love poems, ranging from modern and funny to traditional classics. What began as a simple activity quickly became a deeply engaging and meaningful experience.

The Poetry Corner provided valuable insights into how Ashford Place has impacted our guests lives. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with everyone expressing how our activities, community lunches, and peaceful garden have contributed to their overall well-being—both mental and physical. Many shared how our independent advice and guidance workers had made a difference, offering support when they needed it most. In fact, when asked, “How are you?” many of our service users told us they would be lost without Ashford Place, calling it a true lifesaver, and praising our wonderful staff team.

The poetry discussions sparked lively conversations about friendship, family, love, chocolate, and the joys of getting out and about. Our Friday lunch session was busier than ever, with a few regular clients surprised to walk into a room filled with pink balloons, chocolate cake, and a lot of good-natured fun.

A special moment of generosity came when Debbie raffled off a beautifully crocheted blanket, handmade during our Wednesday Crafternoon sessions. The raffle raised an incredible £243.00, which will go towards a future day out for our clients living with diagnosed mental illness.

Donna’s lively dance and exercise session kept everyone moving and laughing. Guests were treated to unexpected pampering with head massages from Tamara and Hayley from Irish in Britain’s nail painting station supporting her Healthy Ageing Project. It was heartwarming to see everyone enjoying the pampering.

To top off the celebration, we served a healthy three-course lunch. During the meal, we were delighted to host Mora Voices, a school choir, led by their headteacher and choir mistress. The choir treated us to a beautiful performance of songs in multiple languages, including a few upbeat Bob Marley tunes that had everyone tapping their feet. After their performance, the choir returned to Mora School, and we wrapped up the day with our usual bingo session.

All in all, it was a fantastic, fun-filled day of celebration, bringing people together and fostering a sense of community. As we continue to support each other, we look forward to more moments of joy, connection, and shared experiences here at Ashford Place. Thank you to all who participated, and let’s keep spreading love and kindness throughout the year!
