Ashford Place Dementia Café had a rare treat last month when they were entertained to an afternoon of music and song by musicians from the Royal Albert Hall. The audience were taken on an historical and musical journey from the opening of the hall in 1871, (which was inspired by Queen Victoria’s husband Prince Albert) through the decades of the war and on to the celebration of The Proms which takes place every year in July/August. The songs and music played on a guitar, trumpet and trombone, triggered many happy memories from Dame Vera Lynn and Dame Shirley Bassey to the music of Tom Jones, Cliff Richard, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and The Beatles. Everyone was encouraged to sing along and dance to the old favourites and share memories of the past. As a memento of the occasion everyone received a souvenir Royal Albert Hall Song Book. AP DeCafe expressed their gratitude to the musicians for a wonderful musical afternoon and look forward to a future visit.
