First Aid Training at our Dementia Cafes

30.07.2024

At Ashford Place, the health and well-being of our community take centre stage. This is especially true for individuals living with existing health conditions and those caring for them. Recently, our Community Action on Dementia (CAD) team provided First Aid training to over 100 people living with Dementia and their caregivers across several of our Dementia Cafes.

On July 23rd, Ashford Place DeCafe hosted a session on First Aid, attended by 30 members. Debbie from St. John’s Ambulance led the workshop, emphasising crucial first responses during medical emergencies. Participants learned how to place a patient in the recovery position, handle choking incidents, manage severe bleeding, and effectively call 999. Natalie, a DeCafe volunteer, actively participated in practical demonstrations.

The feedback was positive, with members expressing gratitude for Debbie’s informative presentation. They left feeling more confident in their ability to handle medical emergencies. Throughout the Borough of Brent, we have up to 20 Dementia Cafes, Memory Lounges, and Support groups meeting weekly to support those living with a Dementia diagnosis and their dedicated carers.
