The borough of Brent proved this week that it can be a source of support and inspiration for residents living with mental health challenges. Over 18 different organisations from the statutory, community and Faith communities gathered together to connect with local residents and to talk about what is needed for a mental health friendly Brent, what is already available, how it can be effectively accessed and how we can all work together to design a world beating mental health service for everyone here in the borough.
This year’s Mental Health Awareness week focused on anxiety and the activities and information at the event attempted to increase a greater awareness and understanding of something that is a normal emotion for all of us, but can occasionally get out of control and become a difficult problem. Brent Thrive members spoke about the need for Brent Council and Statutory Mental Health services to strive for higher quality services, services to be co-designed, and equal distribution of resources towards prevention as well as hospital care. One Brent Thrive members said ‘it is good to see Brent Health Matters – event Lead – focusing soley on mental health at this event as it is something we all need to talk about and improve for ourselves and each other’.
