Our Mayor, Our Community

31.10.2024

We were absolutely delighted and honoured to attend the recent Civic Service at the Brent Civic Centre. It was a wonderful occasion to celebrate Councillor Tariq Dar’s civic year and his dedication of the Mayoral year to promote his chosen charity, the Pakistan Community Centre. Councillor Dar has been a cherished supporter of Ashford Place for many years, and we are grateful for his continued support. We wish him all the best in his Mayoral year.

For over 50 years, Tariq Dar has been a cornerstone of the Brent community. Since arriving in the UK in 1965, he has become a champion for residents, earning an MBE in 2019 for his outstanding services to the community.

Tariq’s role as a community leader spans numerous organisations. As Chairman of the Pakistan Community Centre, he has championed many local causes and served as a Trustee for the Central Mosque of Brent, Cricklewood Library, and Friends of Gladstone Park.

His commitment to improving the lives of residents is evident throughout Brent. He has worked with Sufra Food Bank for a decade, serves as a Homelessness Cabinet Champion, and tirelessly advocates for vulnerable residents. Notably, he led the successful campaign to reduce fees for NICOP cards, benefiting millions of overseas Pakistanis.

Tariq has always promoted interfaith understanding through the London Muslim Forum, organizing Muslim-Jewish youth events.

Charitable work is another hallmark of his dedication. From raising funds for the Cricklewood Library to leading BBC Children in Need campaigns and earthquake relief efforts, Tariq has made a significant impact on countless lives.
