Ashford Place continues to work hard in conjunction with Brent NHS CCG on the SMI Annual Health Check Project which has been set up to ensure anyone who has been diagnosed with a Mental Health Condition in our community is availing of their Annual Health Checks. The project has been created to ensure everyone is made aware and reminded that it is their entitlement to have an Annual Health Check.
Annual Health Checks cover:
- GP – blood pressure, weight, blood sugar levels, vaccinations, discussions around lifestyle
- Dentist
- Optician
- Chiropodist
- Mammogram
- Smear Test
We have been tirelessly spreading the word throughout Brent, making telephone calls, handing out leaflets and talking face to face with anyone who we think fits the criteria.
We have been making contact with all GP Surgeries in Brent, asking them if they feel their mental health patients are responding to the invitation to come to their surgeries and if they feel there is resistance to this;
- why they think that is and
- what can we here at Ashford Place do to help them break down the barriers
It is vital we also find those in our community who are not being monitored by a GP or a support group that they also avail of our help throughout this project. Finding these individuals is a very important part of our project as the vulnerable in our community who do not avail of this service, run the high risk of facing avoidable ill health in the future.
This project is running until the end of March but we feel it is definitely something that should be continually monitored and reported.
