Off to the Tower

03.08.2023

On Wednesday, our Dementia Peer Support Group was invited back to the Tower of London for part 2 of the pilot project with the Community Team at Historic Royal Palaces and Innovations in Dementia. The aim of the project is to make the Tower of London more accessible and welcoming for all.  We had Jon the fabulous storyteller recall the story of Sir Walter Raleigh and his ‘elixir of life’ as we wandered his magical herb garden we were able to touch and smell his plants from across the world. We met the Twitter-famous Yeoman “Beefy 409” who seemed more exited to show off his air-force credentials to RAF veteran member, Donald. After a walk around the Tower, we explored bits of the Tower’s history and put all of the inspiration from the stories we heard to create our own wellbeing and memory boxes. Although it was a soggy day, it was definitely one to remember! Thank you to Jatinder and Kim at the Historic Royal Palaces, and Jon Sleigh the storyteller, for making us feel incredibly welcome, and the team at Innovations in Dementia, and Enliven for funding this project.
