A memorable day for Brent and CADBrent (Community Action on Dementia)

15.12.2020

Brent has this week been recognised as ‘working to become dementia-friendly’ through the  Alzheimer’s Society’s recognition process, with CADBrent leading the journey. CADBrent was established in 2015 as a registered charity with a membership including Brent Council, Brent CCG, Brent Fire Brigade, Brent Police, voluntary agencies, local businesses, Faith communities, local residents,  and most importantly people living with dementia and their carers. Since that time with the direction of the CADBrent steering group we have achieved a number of success such as greater awareness of dementia, increased level of community and health related services and agencies working together to co-design, with people living with dementia, high quality, responsive and effective support systems. Crucially, the CADBrent Membership have encouraged a positive conversation on how we can all change our wider environment to make sure that people with a lived experience are able to use their ability to continue a valued and productive lifestyle.

Whilst we are delighted with the recognition we are all aware that we need to do  a lot more to do before anyone living with dementia feels that Brent is the best place to live in the whole world. Equally, the recognition is welcome and testament to the hard work of people across Brent to make our local place dementia friendly and dementia informed.
