It is becoming apparent that we will need to continue to adjust to the challenges being thrown at us during these COVID times.
We have risen to the challenge in meeting a need which we have picked up on in our conversations with our clients. Many in our local Irish community live in accommodation that does not have adequate cooking facilities or are not confident cooks. Our local cafes are closed so we have opened our kitchen – abiding by strict social distancing rules – and have started providing freshly cooked meals - some lovely traditional Irish dinners - for delivery or collection. The meals are simple, tasty and freshly cooked. Word has spread quickly and we are delivering to over 50 people per week. Our regulars who dined at Ashford Place are also being catered for and we are afforded the opportunity to keep up to date with them and keep them involved in our wellbeing activities.
Alongside this food delivery service we are providing tablets on loan to clients who will benefit from being able to take part in our virtual activities and wellbeing chat groups. We support them to use the tablet at the outset until they are confident enough to use them unsupported.
A huge thanks to the Government of Ireland Covid-19 Fund for their financial support in helping us in partnership with Brent Irish Advisory Service at this time.
