Living with Mental illness? Annual Health Checks and Vaccination Project

25.08.2022

We launched a new Mental Health Project set up to encourage people, with a mental health diagnosis, throughout the Brent community to avail of their annual health checks and keep up to date with their vaccinations.

In an increasingly digital world this is not always a straightforward process.

Making GP appointments often needs to be done online, waiting times on the phone can cause people to give up, some cannot face attending on the day and many have a variety of reasons why they have not availed of the opportunity for a health check.

Vaccine weariness and vaccine hesitation are challenging to overcome.

Our project team will be doing their very best to help find as many people as possible in the community who struggle to the point of giving up trying which in turn leads to avoidable future physical and mental illness.

We have asked Brent GP’s, friends and family to refer people who might benefit from this project. We visiting community spaces and local community groups to spread the word.

We aim to offer a drop in service at Ashford Place for anyone with a mental health diagnosis to come for advice on how to live a healthy life, advice on exercise, healthily eating and support them to overcome challenges in making and attending GP and vaccine appointments

Our service will offer:

  1. One to one support
  2. Information, advice and navigation support to access physical health checks for people with mental ill health
  3. Short term support tailored to facilitating physical health checks
  4. Support to maintain and improve emotional and mental wellbeing
  5. Support to empower service users to achieve their goals and to live a meaningful and valued life in the community
  6. Links signposting and help to access other appropriate support and services

We are here to support those who find the process of taking the opportunity for a health check and vaccinations challenging.   Keep an eye on our website, social media and newsletter for upcoming events aimed at increasing the uptake of annual healthchecks and vaccinations.
