This week we were sad to say bye to Angela, a Dance Movement Psychotherapy – DMP - final year student who over the last six months has been facilitating a dance movement psychotherapy group and 1:1 individual sessions for our clients. Studying at Goldsmith University and introduced to us as part of our ICAP partnership our clients have been delighted to take part in these weekly sessions and have expressed excitement and enthusiasm for this form of expressing oneself and findings ways of exploring and addressing psychological problems or difficulties. It is an approach to psychological treatment that does not rely on talking about problems as the only way of finding solutions. We are actively seeking another final year student as we speak. Dance Movement Psychotherapy (DMP) recognises body movement as an implicit instrument of communication and expression. DMP is a relational process in which client(s) and therapist engage creatively using body movement and dance, as well as verbal and non-verbal reflection.
