It was good to hear the news this week that Wembley is the first national stadium in the UK to become dementia friendly as part of a scheme to encourage all sports grounds to do the same. This is part of the Football Association-backed initiative by the Alzheimer’s Society to try to ensure all football grounds are welcoming to people with dementia. ‘This is fantastic news and reflects the Stadium’s vision of being open and welcoming to everyone in our community. Since 2016 www.cad-brent.org.uk has been working to become a dementia friendly Brent so hearing that the stadium is introducing dementia-friendly measures is very welcome. CAD-Brent has supported visits to the stadium for people living with dementia and carers pre and post Covid lockdowns and these have been fun and therapeutic and something we will do again. Recent surveys clearly indicate that residents living with dementia and their carers want opportunities to socialise and connect, and want places like the stadium to be dementia friendly.
Hope you are well and great to see you recently at the volunteer award ceremony.
