Combatting loneliness and isolation over a cuppa!

11.07.2024

Our Befriending Team recently enjoyed a delightful coffee morning at one of our local supported living facilities. As the kettle boiled, a lovely group of residents gathered for a chat—perhaps the first time they had connected as a group in a while. In some of these facilities, residents tend to keep to themselves, either staying in their flats or going their separate ways due to a lack of motivation to socialize.

The purpose of our coffee mornings is to remind residents that they are valued members of our community. Their company is cherished, and their voices matter. We want them to know they won’t be forgotten.

Over cups of tea or coffee, conversations flow among residents. They discuss family, reminisce about homes in Ireland or other countries, share personal achievements, and exchange stories from their youth. These conversations are filled with interesting information and educational tidbits—a treasure trove in our modern age.

Our befriending team eagerly anticipates the next coffee morning, where residents will once again come together for more chat and companionship. We hope our visits bring as much joy to the residents as they do to our team. Our ongoing effort to combat loneliness and isolation is achieved with each visit.
