Empowering connections: Raunchy Rockers Experience

19.09.2024

Seven years ago, a delightful group of ladies approached us with a vision to build and sustain their small social group, the “Raunchy Rockers Experience.” We eagerly accepted the challenge, and today, we are proud to see this group thriving with over 60 members meeting weekly at the Chalkhill Community Centre in Wembley.

The Raunchy Rockers are a truly inspirational, vibrant and enthusiastic group. The enduring friendships formed within the group are heartwarming, and the engagement in our activities is remarkable. Our seated exercise sessions, led by Karen, and the lively dance sessions, led by Myra, are always in high demand. The morning coffee hour that follows is a cherished time for members to connect and share.

Whether you are looking to stay active, meet new people, or simply enjoy some lively music and dance, this group offers a wonderful opportunity to do so.

Myra, our lead volunteer, is the heart of the Raunchy Rockers. Known for her kindness, efficiency, and dedication, she recently organized a coach trip to Eastbourne for 52 members. The trip was a fantastic success, filled with joy and laughter. Although they were “too busy having fun” to take photos, they did manage to capture a group photo at this week’s meeting.  Myra's effort were greatly appreciated by all on the daytrip.

This week at group Karen brought her landmark birthday celebrations to the group with a delightful party, complete with delicious food catered by the local Cricklewood Jerk Truck operator (who as it happens also has a link to Ashford Place having been in our Assessment Centre while homeless a few years ago) . It was a memorable event that highlighted the strong sense of community within the group.

The Raunchy Rockers Experience is a shining example of a volunteer-led group welcoming and supportive group that has flourished with guidance, support, and funding from us, along with contributions from its members. Running the group costs about £100 per month. We are always looking for funders who share our vision of fostering community and combating social isolation.

If you're interested in joining the group for a try-out session or would like more information, please get in touch [email protected].

If you know of any potential funders who would like to support the Raunchy Rockers, we would be delighted to discuss how they can help us continue making a positive impact.

Raunchy Rockers Experience is a testament to the power of community and the joy of staying active together.
