Residents at Lawnfield Care Home in Willesden were treated to a heart-warming musical performance as members of the Songs of Joy Dementia Choir filled the home with familiar songs, smiles and laughter.
The choir, made up of people living with dementia and their carers, delivered an uplifting array of well-loved classics including fly me to the moon and some of their own musical medleys that had residents singing along, clapping to the rhythm and sharing treasured memories. Music has a unique way of reaching people living with dementia, often evoking memories and emotions, while encouraging social connection and improving wellbeing.
For the choir members, performing at Lawnfield Care Home was another opportunity to share their talents, build confidence and demonstrate the positive impact that creativity and community can have on life with dementia.
