A Day of Relaxation, Reconnection and Nostalgia at the Gaumont State

05.11.2026

Yesterday, members of the Ashford Place Beyond Labels Women’s Group enjoyed something completely different — a wonderful day of relaxation, wellbeing and local history at the iconic Gaumont State Building on Kilburn High Road, now beautifully cared for and run by Ruach Church.

From the moment we arrived, we were given a warm and generous welcome. As part of Anti-Stress Week, the day offered a welcome opportunity to slow down, unwind and enjoy some time together. There was an abundance of refreshments, including tea, coffee, croissants, biscuits, crisps and fresh fruit, creating a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

The highlight for many was a dedicated relaxation session, featuring aromatherapy and guided meditation. It was a chance to take a breath, step away from the demands of everyday life and focus on our own wellbeing in a calm and nurturing environment.

The day also took us on a journey through local history with a tour of the magnificent Gaumont State Building. For three of our group, the visit was particularly nostalgic. We remembered coming here in the 1970s, when the building was a cinema. Returning decades later, and seeing it in its renewed glory, brought back wonderful memories. For others, it was their first opportunity to discover this remarkable landmark.

The building is truly beautiful, and we were struck by how immaculately it is maintained by Ruach Church. Its care and preservation are a real credit to the church and to the local community.

The event also provided an opportunity to meet and connect with others from Central and North West London NHS Trust and Brent Health Matters, helping to strengthen relationships across our local community and wellbeing networks.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Ruach Church for their hospitality, the thoughtful programme and the opportunity to experience this special building. We are also grateful to Central and North West London NHS Trust and Brent Health Matters for their involvement and support.

Days like this remind us that wellbeing is not simply about managing stress — it is also about feeling welcomed, making connections, sharing memories and discovering new experiences together.

And the good news is — we’ll be back!

Our next visit is planned for Wednesday 2 December, when the Gaumont State will welcome us once again for what promises to be a special festive-month gathering. We hope more people will have the opportunity to join us and experience this wonderful day for themselves.

A little relaxation, a little nostalgia and a lot of community spirit — a truly memorable day for our Beyond Labels Women’s Group.
