Reading and writing

Our book club resumed after the summer break.  Our book choice was A Whole Life by Robert Seethaler. It was a popular choice. Feedback was very positive with all but one of the club enjoying the story and the language and pace of the story “beautiful lyrical prose” “overwhelmingly sad, sometimes unbearable” “ a good book to read after reading something tough”.

Following on from discussing the book we discussed what stops us reading, why we read and how to develop good reading habits.

Amongst the books club members had read during the summer break were Daisy Jones and The Six, The Cry, Miss Patch, Normal People, Crudo, heads of the Coloured People, Leonard Cohen poetry and Pat Barkers trilogy, Out Stealing Horses and Wheels within Wheels.  So there are lots of recommendations for anyone looking for something new to read.

If you zoom in on the photo you might be able to read the varied comments!

Next book club is 9th October 2019 at 2pm in the Side Door Café.  All readers welcome!

Our next book choice recommended by Fidelma is Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.  We are also going to complete readying Dubliners by James Choice
