Our befriending team, led by Jeri, have been talking continuously to our great community of Irish Elders over the last few weeks. We have managed to get to see most of of them and have a chat in the sunshine, drop some food, included freshly cooked meals, to some and even, on occasion, we had the opportunity to recite a bit of social distance poetry from a garden wall!!
Over the last eight or nine weeks we have learned a lot about the lives in the UK of many of the Irish Elders. We have talked about what year they came to the UK, where they worked , what life was like when the arrived and what has changed over the years. It’s really interesting hearing everyone’s stories and we look forward to hearing more about their lives over the next few weeks. We will continue to look our for all our Irish clients and for all the clients we have in our befriending project. We will continue to engage them in meaningful activities and encourage and enable them to stay fir and well.
The resilience and strength of character is what keeps the Irish community spirit alive and well in Ashford Place.
