Befriending’s helping hands

29.07.2021

Our befriending team works hard for all of our clients, and this means we are always prepared to assist anyone that may need us to go the extra mile for them in relation to medical and social care challenges that they may face from time to time. We have been helping one particular client whose physical health has deteriorated significantly over the last twelve months leaving him in a situation where his day to day living has become much more challenging. While our befriending team have been helping him to their capacity, they have reached out further and have had many lines of communication with his GP and with his Hospital Consultant Team advocating for him to get the care he needs to live as independently and comfortably as he can in his own home. His medical condition has had an impact on his mental wellbeing so life for him has been particularly difficult and we at Ashford Place have been assisting him on this difficult journey every step of the way.

After months of perseverance and many conversations with medical professionals, we are happy to report that steps are now being put in place for our client to get the care he urgently needs to help him continue a safe and independent life. We have been told that Ashford Place’s efforts in this case have been a large contributing factor in our client getting the help he needs. Without our help, his situation would possibly have continued until a time would come when he would no longer be able to live alone. His case, for whatever reason, has been overlooked within the system but having continued communication with the right support agencies his case will now be dealt with productively.

It is very important to us at Ashford Place that we keep a close eye on our older and more vulnerable members in our community as this is a good example of what positive results can be achieved when we speak up for those whose voices are not heard.
