A Happy Diwali and a Prosperous New Year to all the community from Brent Thrive

05.11.2020

We kicked off celebrations a week early with a delicious traditional Indian vegetarian meal, kindly donated by BAPs Sri Swaminarayan Temple Neasden.

In celebration of Diwali we wanted share with our Brent community the launch of our South Asian Peer Support group this December. This is in aid to support the mental health and wellbeing for people of Indian, Pakistani, Punjabi and Sikh heritage within the borough of Brent.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude and thanks to the following organisations (who have so generously given their time, help and support to work together to raise awareness around mental health and wellbeing in our community):

  • BAPs Sri Swaminarayan Temple Neasden for their generous donation of 600 vegetarian Indian hot meals and 600 Diwali Hampers; The Dhamecha Group, Wembley for donating chocolates and Popat Stores, Wembley for the tealights to light up your homes!
  • All the Brent Mutual Aid Groups involved in this project - for kindly volunteering to deliver all    these gifts to vulnerable people living in Brent.
  • We would like to acknowledge the hard work of Elaine Ho, representing Kensal Rise Mutual Aid and Leroy D Simpson representing Harlesden Mutual Aid for undertaking the huge task of organising the operations between each ward.
  • Anjie Chhapia and the team at Harrow Care Plus and Lesley Barson at the Granville Community Kitchen, Kilburn for volunteering to distribute the meals to the community.
  • Finally, The Salvation Army in Harlesden for providing a base for volunteers to collect the meals.

Thank you to everyone for your contributions towards collaborative working, to make this happen, showing us the spirit of community.
