Health Checks (SMI)

We know that people with long and enduring mental illness face one of the greatest health inequality gaps in the country. In fact, life expectancy is 15–20 years lower than the general population. One of the reasons for this is that some individuals for whatever reason are not having their annual health checks. Individuals are not always consistently offered appropriate or timely physical health assessments despite their higher risk of poor physical health. They are not always supported to use available health information and advice or to take up tests and interventions that may reduce the risk of preventable health conditions. We are delighted to have the opportunity, thanks to support from Brent CCG to encourage Brent residents to make an appointment with their GP and have their annual health check. The check includes BMI, Blood Pressure, pulse, as well as medication review.
