Ashford Place Aware: Scam Alert!

30.10.2024

Ensuring the safety of all its service users is the top priority for Ashford Place staff and Community Action on Dementia (CAD-Bren) based at Ashford Place. To this end, a Safety at Home - Scam Awareness session was organized by Debbie to update members of the Dementia Café on the most common scam scenarios and how to handle them.

Over 40 members attended this informative and reassuring workshop, led by Nicky from the Community Security Trust (CST) and Police Constable Elaine. The session covered various scenarios, including how to respond if targeted by phone, online, or confronted face-to-face on the street or at home. Attendees were reassured that reporting suspicious activities to the police is never a waste of time.

The workshop included video recordings of scam victims, which sparked plenty of discussion and sharing of experiences among the attendees. Nicky also recommended registering online for SAFE talk and webinars. Useful links were provided for services such as the Telephone Preference Service, Citizens Advice Bureau, and the Financial Conduct Authority.

Given the increasing concern over scams—whether online, via telephone, text, or in person—the members of the Dementia Café were fortunate to receive such detailed information on staying safe and recognizing suspicious behaviours.

On behalf of the audience, Michele, the Dementia Café leader, expressed gratitude to Nicky and Elaine for their informative workshop and thanked Debbie of CAD for organizing the session.

Another Police Scam Alert Workshop will be held on Wednesday, December 4th, at 11:30 am at Ashford Place. All service users are invited to attend.
