On Wednesday we were delighted to welcome Helen Lake, UTI Information Nurse from The Urology Foundation to Ashford Place! Helen gave an informative and engaging talk on bladder health, covering important topics such as symptoms to watch out for of Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) as well as advice on prevention and treatment of UTIs.
UTIs are the second most common kind of infection, after chest infections, and can affect anyone, regardless of age. Signs of UTIs include:
- Changes in frequency of urination.
- Changes in appearance and smell of urine.
- Physical discomfort in the lower abdomen.
- High temperature or chills.
- Generally feeling unwell.

If something doesn’t feel right, or you’re unsure about your symptoms, asking for help is always a good idea! You can find more information on The Urology Foundation website or phone the confidential UTI information service helpline at 0808 801 1108, open Tuesdays and Thurdsdays 10am -12 noon.
At Ashford Place we strongly believe in the importance of health education as an empowering tool which enables people to make informed decisions about both their own health and wellbeing and others in the community. We were very pleased that Helen’s talk was attended by 40 people who were all given useful information, links to services related to bladder health, and the opportunity to ask questions on the topic.
Thanks again to Helen and those who attended the talk!
