Here’s a useful link to information on keeping warm and well in winter.
With the current low temperatures, it is important to keep safe and well through this current cold snap. As part of our Winter Keep Well Project 2023, we are making sure we not only speak to all our visitors who come to see us in Ashford Place, but also we are spreading the word throughout the wider community, especially those who have a mental health diagnosis or are living with dementia, about the key ways in which they all can look after themselves in the winter months and how everyone can manage their own health needs, where possible, without having to rely on attending the GP Surgeries or visiting A&E unnecessarily. We are doing this by holding discussions with attendees in our daily/weekly groups, offering leaflets containing information on wellbeing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We are also making sure to discuss our project when we are having general chats with our clients who come in for lunch or cup of tea. All of this gives each and everyone who comes through our door a chance to raise any concerns they may have in relation to keeping warm and well throughout the winter months.
We are also encouraging everyone to avail of their Annual Health Checks and to ensure they do not shy away from getting their Flu and Covid Vaccinations which, if not taken, can cause avoidable health problems in the future. With our encouragement and support, we find some people take a positive step towards these essential appointments which they may not have otherwise taken.
We are having discussions with those who attend our offsite groups such as our Dementia Decaf Cafes and Supported Living sites also, offering the same support and information and encouraging them to continue to manage their own health needs where possible.
We are successfully spreading the word to those who attend Ashford Place and also those throughout the wider Brent community about our Keep Well Winter Project 2023.
We will continue to work hard on this project to ensure a positive outcome for those not only with a mental health diagnosis or living with dementia but everyone we can to ensure a healthier and happier community.
