Music for the ages

05.07.2023

Watch and listen to Mac – 96 years - who after many years has re-discovered the pleasure of playing the fiddle/violin. Clearly, he hasn’t forgotten how to play. Here at AP we are keen to support our clients to express their creativity in a way that feels right for them. Whether it be through song, dance, yoga, poetry or any other form of art we welcome local artists to work with us – pro bono – to help our older people build their cognitive reserve and live a fulfilling life for as long as possible.

We know that Cognitive decline represents a challenge to healthy aging but we can try activity that slows down  age-related cognitive decline. Creative, physical and psycho/social activities are associated with a slower rate of memory decline in normal aging. And what better than playing a musical instrument to improve cognitive reserve into late life. Active engagement with music has enduring cognitive benefits, such as concentration, memory, self-discipline, and confidence. Regular playing of musical instruments helps to stave (excuse the musical pun) off age-related decline in Mac’s case.
