Reflections on Our Mental Health Arts, Music and Film Festival

25.09.2025

Our recent Mental Health Arts, Music and Film Festival at the Kiln Cinema in Brent was a powerful celebration of creativity, resilience, and community. The event drew a large, attentive, and deeply appreciative audience, moved by a series of evocative performances and thought-provoking discussions.

What made the event truly special was that every performer and speaker shared their own lived experience of mental health challenges. Through music, film, spoken word, and visual art, they offered stories of hope, recovery, and strength—showing how the arts can be a vital pathway to wellbeing.

The atmosphere was electric, the performances outstanding, and the message clear: our community needs more of this. By the end of the evening, there was a strong consensus that events like this should not be rare exceptions, but a first-choice form of support for those navigating mental health journeys.

Brent Council and Brent NHS—please take note. Residents are calling for investment in arts-based support services for people experiencing mental health and wellbeing challenges.

We’re proud to have hosted such a meaningful gathering and are already looking ahead to future opportunities to spotlight the voices and talents of those with lived experience. We’re deeply grateful for the support of the Irish Government and JJ Rhatigan, whose backing made this event possible.
