A Tweet Day Out

10.04.2025

On Wednesday, Ashford Place joined Canal & River Trust on a bird spotting walk around the Welsh Harp. With Spring in our step and binoculars around our neck, we spotted countless species enjoying our local reservoir – from musical Chiffchaffs and sunbathing Commodores to proud Herons and even the elusive Snipe. We were also lucky enough to spy the smallest bird in the UK – the Goldcrest.

Spring is considered the best season for birdwatching as it’s when migrant birds return to nest and mate. Under the wing of our brilliant guide Magnus, we spotted our feathered friends undetected from wooden bird hides and hidden vantage points.

Bird watching improves mental health by encouraging mindfulness, lowering blood pressure and promoting a sense of connectedness to nature. This calming practice is also proven to help combat depression and loneliness, as well as sharpen memory and cognitive skills.

For our clients, participating in these sorts of activities is key to developing healthy habits, meeting new people and exploring outside their comfort zone.

A big thanks to Canal & River Trust for providing this opportunity and removing barriers to access, and to the all-knowing Magnus!
