The Wallace Collection, housed at Hertford House in Manchester Square, Central London, is renowned for its extensive collection of over 5,000 works of art, including notable 18th-century pieces. The museum not only offers regular dementia-friendly workshops at its London location but also extends its outreach through visits to Brent Dementia Cafes throughout the year.
Recently, Ashford Place Tuesday DeCafe had the pleasure of hosting an ‘Out of the Frame’ 18th Century Art workshop, led by Marie-Therese from the Wallace Collection. The event drew a large crowd who were treated to an engaging and informative session featuring prints of famous 18th-century French paintings from the Royal Court. Marie-Therese skillfully guided participants in exploring the stories behind the paintings by examining details such as furniture, clothing, and table settings. Her presentation was enriched with intriguing historical insights and anecdotes from the royal court, captivating the audience.
The highlight of the afternoon was when attendees had the opportunity to try on an ostrich feather hat from the museum’s collection, adding a tangible connection to the era discussed. Michele, representing Ashford Place DeCafe, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Marie-Therese for her entertaining and educational workshop, and to Emily from the Wallace Collection for organizing the visit.
Ashford Place DeCafe eagerly anticipates future visits from the Wallace Collection, recognizing the profound impact of art in fostering connection, stimulation, and expression among its participants.
