Getting older healthily

22.05.2023

Brent residents, health organisations, clinicians and local Councillors met up at the The Church of the Ascension last weekend to talk about Getting Older in Brent. Arranged by Frailty Future in partnership with Community Action on Dementia we heard that frailty is a misunderstood term and when used properly, it refers to a person’s mental and physical resilience, or their ability to bounce back and recover from events like illness and injury. In practice being frail means a relatively ‘minor’ health problem, such as a urinary tract infection, can have a severe long term impact on someone’s health and wellbeing. This is why it is so important that people living with frailty have access to well-planned, joined-up care to prevent problems arising in the first place – and a rapid, specialist response should anything go wrong. Residents had the opportunity to speak with an array of specialists and talk about their own particular frailty issues. One lady from Wembley said ‘this is the kind of support we need, relevant information, access to professionals at a local level at a time when we need it. Can we have more of these events please’. Organisations attending include Ashford Place, M2M solicitors, Brent Memory Services, Brent Health Matters and The Institute of Clinically Applied Holistic Therapy.
