Easter at Ashford Place Dementia café

27.03.2024

Easter celebrations started early at Ashford Place Dementia Café on Tuesday when the choir from Our Lady of Grace Infant School entertained the large crowd present. Accompanied by their music teacher Stephen Sharland on the piano, the boys and girls from Years 1 and 2 sang their hearts out with a range of old favourites from ‘The Teddy Bear’s Picnic’, ‘I’ll Tell My Ma’, ‘Lord of the Dance’, and ‘Down by the Sally Gardens’. The audience was full of admiration for the boys and girls who sang solo, and they enjoyed joining in with the choruses.

Visits by the Infant School choir throughout the school year are always a highlight at the DeCafe  - the children’s laughter and enthusiasm and their excellent singing of favourite songs trigger happy memories for those living with memory loss or Dementia.

Ashford Place is very grateful to  Mrs Geraghty and Our Lady of Grace Infant School for supporting the Dementia Café and look forward to the choir’s next visit before the summer holidays.

Music and singing have been proven to improve mental health in people with Dementia, it has been shown to reduce agitation and inspire a person to tap a beat and sing lyrics to a song from childhood.

Ashford Place Dementia Café meets every Tuesday from 2pm – 4pm. For further information email Michele at [email protected] or Telephone 0208 208 8590
