Community Cancer Awareness Event

02.08.2024

On Wednesday 31st July and Thursday 1st August 2024 we delivered an educational and impactful cancer awareness event to over 120 people with attendance being reflective of the diversity of the borough of Brent.

Jeri, Michele and Danny led the discussions and covered topics such as spotting signs, symptoms, prevention and supporting each other through diagnoses.  Literature provided by NHS RM partners was circulated.

Diane Collymore (Brent Health Educator) led an informative discussion on diabetes awareness as many of our attendees live with existing health conditions so this was an opportunity to discuss new illnesses that may be missed by being attributed to existing conditions.

As we work on improving mental and physical health we had a very enjoyable and somewhat challenging Qi Gong taster session as the event was an opportunity to demonstrate a gentle exercise that may bring health benefits if a new or existing health condition means people opt out of caring for their physical fitness. The focus of the taster session was on health, breathing, and posture for mental and physical well-being.
