At Ashford Place, we simply could not do what we do without the food provided food waste distribution charities, Felix Project and City Harvest. Our community kitchen is a lifeline for those who come through our doors. The impact of this support goes far beyond meals - it enables us to provide dignity, hope, and meaningful change.
Here’s what the food donations has helped us achieve:
- We’re able to serve nutritious, balanced meals - including a wide variety of fresh fruit and vegetables - which many of our service users simply cannot access elsewhere.
- The quality and consistency of the food allows us to plan regular community meals, reduce anxiety around food insecurity, and offer a stable, welcoming environment.
- It helps us build trust - a hot, healthy meal is often the first step in encouraging someone to engage with wider support services like mental health, housing advice, or addiction recovery.
- We’ve saved valuable time and resources, which we can reinvest into additional services, one-to-one support, and outreach. Without food redistribution deliveries, we would need to divert significant funds to buy food, meaning fewer people could access help.
The results speak for themselves:
- Thanks to food donations, we can offer fresh produce
- It allows us to make a bigger difference in our community - and we at Ashford Place see that every day in the lives changed through the Community Kitchen.
- We have been able to run more efficiently - it’s enabled us to focus more time on developing personalised, wraparound support.
Without Felix, City Harvest and community donors, Our Community Kitchen Would Struggle to Survive
If the support from The Felix Project and City Harvest were to stop:
- We would not be able to continue our Community Kitchen in its current form.
- The loss would directly affect hundreds of vulnerable people who rely on us not just for food, but for connection, care, and a route out of crisis.
- We would be forced to cut back essential services, and ultimately, the future of our food provision - and the broader work built around it - would be at risk.
The food we receive isn’t just nutrition - it’s a tool for transformation.
From reducing loneliness and improving mental health, to equipping people with life skills and connecting them to wider support, Felix, City Harvest and community donors’ partnership enables us to truly change lives.
