Healing the Past, Together

16.06.2026

Attending a TTTNIUK (Troubles, Tragedy & Trauma Northern Ireland, UK) event was a deeply moving and memorable experience, centred on remembrance, dialogue, healing and the continuing need to listen to those affected by the legacy of the Northern Ireland Troubles.

Founded 10 years ago by Michael O’Hare in memory of his sister Majella, this vital charity serves as a bridge for victims, survivors and families living in Great Britain who continue to carry the impact of the Troubles in their lives.

Over numerous cups of tea. tasty lunch and sandwiches and snacks from the Irish shop, the day unfolded as a powerful blend of inspirational talks, panel discussions and workshops. It also included a moving and shocking play, which brought home the human cost of conflict in a way that words alone could not fully capture.

The event at the ICC served as a profound reminder of the value and necessity of TTTNIUK’s work. For those removed from the Troubles, and for younger generations who did not live through that period, it offered an important refresher on the impact that trauma arising from the Troubles in Northern Ireland had on lives then, and continues to have today.

The room brought together people from all walks of life, bound by a shared desire for understanding, reconciliation and peace. Listening to personal testimonies and thoughtful discussion highlighted both the enduring pain of the past and the resilience of those who continue to seek healing and recovery.

The day was signed off with a fantastic, passionate contribution from our very own Chris, who spoke powerfully about the value of community and kindness, and the power of truly listening to one another.
