Over the coming months we will be focussing our minds on how we can be part of the @Brent Councils Together Towards Zero initiative.
Did you know 90% of our ingredients come from food redistribution via @Fareshare @Felixproject and @CityHarvest and bolstered by some good people in our community. In particular the weekly delivery from St Mary and St Andrews RC church in Dollis Hill. We are grateful to them all. Our chef and his helpers turn the ingredients into a healthy 3 course lunch – we serve hundres of meals each month. Any food not used in cooking is,where possible, redistributed to people in the community who need it. Have you noticed the availability of courgettes this year? We have cooked every possible courgette recipe we could get our hands on and our clients have enjoyed partaking of the creations!
We always need help in our kitchen so please get in touch if you wish to get involved.
Remember those courgettes, well they have been boosting our compost pile and will soon be enriching our garden. We are the only business premises in Cricklewood with a front garden and we also have a lovely secluded back garden. It is much admired while customers of the Side Door Café enjoy their cuppa. In it there are many pots that are being given a new lease of life having been gifted to us. Val sent a lovely pot with Jack from New Leaf Gardening – thank you Val! Having a lovely garden does not need to be expensive and gardening is very sustainable.
Presently Jemima will be running an Old vs New fashion and accessories event – we’ll post photos next week. The group are tasked to bring in their oldest item of clothing and jewellery and we will talk about how quality endures, fashion comes round again together with memories attached to the items. We wll also ask attendees to make their Great Green Pledge in relation to buying clothes.
