We were delighted to have Our Lady of Grace Infant School choir sing for our Dementia Café guests this week. They visit once a term and this time their repertoire focussed on summer with a bouyant rendition of Cliff Richard’s Summer Holiday and many more summer songs. We are grateful for the support of the school team and for bringing lots of joy as many of our guests do not get to spend time with younger people. The school aims to build a caring community filled with respect and care for each other, mutual toleration and sympathy and awareness of the human dignity of each person. Singing for our guests helps each pupil have a positive self-image, a sense of individual worth and builds behaviour based on love and respect, in all circumstances. It is great to have our young community members learn from the older members of the community.
Singing is beneficial to those living with dementia. The feel-good cognitive, physical, social and emotional benefits of singing have been widely researched and proven. Our singing for wellbeing group on Wednesdays and our Friday choir offer opportunities to sing and socialise. New members always welcome. Our Tuesday Dementia Café also loves when a musician, singing, poet etc. Pops in to entertain so if you know anyone who has 30 mins to spare, we’d be happy to host them!
