Wellbeing Through Art

20.04.2022

Creativity is shown to have many great benefits for people’s sense of wellbeing. It can help boost confidence and make us feel more engaged and resilient. Alongside these benefits, art engagement can also alleviate anxiety, depression and stress.

Our Monday Wellbeing Socials are a great place for people to come and enjoy creative fun at the same time as managing and talking about their health care needs. These sessions provide opportunities for talking and learning about healthy lifestyles and habits, during group work. Each of the sessions so far have addressed matters that impact our health – we have run workshops on healthy eating, self-care, managing your meds, accessing health info on line and much more. Through the Monday Wellbeing Socials group members have gained confidence in managing their health needs and have reduced the frequency of their need to visit GP’s and A&E on matters that can be resolved independently.

Getting involved in group work can also provide positive impacts on our connections and friendships, which again can affect our health and wellbeing. It is important to find places providing a space to make positive, healthy connections with people with whom we feel comfortable and safe.

Photos are from our T-Shirt making workshop where we asked the group “what do you feel when you think of Ashford Place?” We were delighted with the feedback.  (Thank you to Marice from Accumulate for the art kits!)
