Completing welfare benefit forms isn’t easy at the best of times but if you are living with mental health challenges and do not have support networks it becomes virtually impossible, and very stressful. This week we heard from a very happy client called Jo who told me about how one of our advisors ‘saved the day’ for her by being very supportive, patient and helpful with her PIP Personal Independence Payment application which has now been completed and posted. We are very aware of the growing number of people like Jo who are experiencing unnecessary stress and anxiety about claiming what is rightfully theirs but who do not have anyone to support them. We also know that we and others like us need much more funding to support this type of valuable service. It doesn’t take a lot of investment to have more people like Jo and enabling people to be financially and socially independent will prevent further problems in the future. We would like to encourage statutory services to invest in services that support our vulnerable residents to successfully access welfare benefits. Invest now and prevent problems later.
