The Dementia Hubs Team have been working hard to support the dementia community in Brent, providing tailored support to families when they need it most. Our experienced team of advice workers ensure that families impacted by dementia know what support is available to them and help them to get the relevant support in place. The team deal with situations with kindness and empathy, encouraging families to access the de-café network in Brent, so that people living with dementia can continue to play an active role in their community. They have recently supported a new client to access the local de-café after he told us that he was isolated and wanted to improve his memory. He now attends the Ashford Place café regularly, taking part in stimulating games and activities as well as interacting with other people and having fun! This has had a huge impact on his overall wellbeing. The team have also had several successes over the past few weeks securing Attendance Allowance for clients, reduction in council tax bills as well as blue badges, dial-a-ride and taxicards making it easier for the clients to get around safely. The team have also been able to advocate successfully this week on behalf of a client to get an emergency care package in place due to ill health of a family carer – meaning the carer can rest easy and not have the worry of who will care for his loved one while he has his own health treatment. The carer had been trying to resolve this issue for several weeks himself without success and he was ‘extremely grateful for the support’ of the team. We were also very happy to hear this week of a DWP appeal being allowed for a client after our intervention – meaning a large backdated payment is coming her way! This will definitely help with increased fuel bills and the cost of living. Well Done Team!
