Ashford Place is working in partnership with Hestia funded by Brent CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group) and donations on an exciting new project: The Mental Health Mentoring Project.
Mental well-being is fundamental to achieving a healthy, resilient and thriving community – it is essential for us all. Mental well-being underpins healthy lifestyles, physical health, educational attainment, employment and productivity, relationships, community safety and cohesion and quality of life. We all have experiences in our lives, which affect our mental health.
The project aims to improve the wellbeing of people who live in Brent, who have experienced or are experiencing mental health difficulties by working collaboratively with volunteer mentors/befrienders to achieve meaningful goals and connect people with others.
We think it can be helpful to talk through with someone to find ways of dealing with the things that are affecting your mental health and wellbeing, for example, you may experience social isolation and feelings of loneliness, support from others with similar experiences, can help.
Maybe you would like to improve different areas of your life:
-
Your fitness
-
Becoming more involved in your community
-
Developing your friendship groups
-
Join a social group but feel unable to make that first step
-
Returning to education/training or getting into employment
We believe in overcoming barriers that make it difficult for you to live the life you want. At the heart of this project is relationship, by building relationships with Mentors and Befrienders and connecting people into a wider community, …
We are doing this through a variety of ways:
-
Providing support from a mentor/befriender to enable improvements to wellbeing
-
Ongoing training and workshops to enable people to overcome barriers
-
Developing skills and confidence through joining our peer support and mentoring programs
-
Involvement/collaboration in a new program of exciting activities here at Ashford Place
-
Using a supportive framework, fostering hope and using a recovery approach
We are looking for:
- People from various backgrounds, life skills and experiences to become mentors
- You don't have to be a mental health expert to volunteer with us
- Just compassionate, empathic and have an interest in mental health and/or a lived-experience
If you know of anyone who you think would be interested in either becoming a mentor or mentee, please get in contact with Tania: tel: 020 8208 8590 ext: 205 email: [email protected] or fill out the Referral Form. We will get in touch with you shortly
